Valentyna Mykhailenko – therapist

As a Gestalt Therapist, I specialize in helping individuals explore and make sense of their experiences in the present moment. Gestalt therapy focuses on the relationship between our inner world and the external environment, encouraging clients to become more aware of their emotions, thoughts, and actions. I help clients understand how past experiences influence their present choices and guide them toward discovering new solutions to old challenges. Through this process, they can connect with their true selves and experience a greater sense of fulfillment.

My decision to transition from financial reporting and leadership roles to psychology was driven by a deep desire to better understand myself and the world around me. This curiosity about the human experience, and the drive to explore and uncover the deeper layers of existence, led me to Gestalt therapy. I realized that through helping others gain awareness and insight into their lives, I could embark on a more meaningful and fulfilling path. Since 2019, I have been working as a Gestalt Therapist in private practice, offering both face-to-face and online individual therapy. My work has focused on helping clients explore their emotions, overcome personal crises, and address relationship issues.

In response to the war in Ukraine, I expanded my training by working with cancer patients as a volunteer on the #Vartozhyty hotline. I also completed specialized training, including psycho-oncology (Ukrainian Psycho-Oncology Association), Rewind Technique (BPS CPD), and Crisis Intervention Counseling (Israel Trauma Coalition). My professional development further includes training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (Academy of Modern Psychology), therapeutic interventions for insomnia (Complex Trauma Institute, UK), and the 8-Step Program for Working with Loss (Ukrainian Health Institute and Akershus University Hospital). After relocating to Scotland, I gained membership with both the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the British Gestalt Psychotherapy and Training Institute (GPTI), continuing to deepen my expertise in Gestalt therapy.

I initially joined Feniks as a volunteer in March 2023, and in May 2024, I officially became part of the team. I now provide individual therapy and lead group therapy sessions for the Ukrainian community in Scotland, focusing on helping them navigate the challenges of immigration. My work addresses stress self-regulation, relationship dynamics, and crisis management, supporting clients in building resilience and adapting to life in a new country.

Alongside my therapeutic practice, dancing is one of my hobbies. This passion allows me to explore the connection between body movement and emotional healing. I believe integrating somatic practices into therapy helps deepen self-awareness, release tension, and promote overall well-being.
