Feniks Strategy 2025-2028

2025 is a milestone year for Feniks – we celebrate our 18th anniversary. After nearly two decades of supporting Central and Eastern European (CEE) communities in Edinburgh and across Scotland, we are proud to present our new three-year strategy.

Our communities continue to face multiple challenges: exclusion and social isolation, inequalities, the impact of Brexit, the cost-of-living crisis, and – most urgently – the consequences of the war in Ukraine, which has reshaped the lives of thousands of people seeking safety in Scotland. This new strategy is our response to these realities, ensuring that Feniks remains a place that gives voice and support to those who need it most.

The strategy was developed collaboratively with our staff, volunteers, trustees, and community members. Their voices, perspectives, and lived experience shaped our priorities and guided us in refining our vision, mission, and values.

Our Vision

CEE communities live healthy, fulfilling lives and can actively participate in all aspects of life in Scotland.

Our Mission

To deliver services that improve the wellbeing and integration of CEE communities and interventions that promote their human rights.

Our Values

  • Community-led and inclusive – we act together with those we support.
  • Supportive – our work is grounded in empathy and care.
  • Professional and caring – we combine knowledge and empathy.
  • Adaptive – we adjust our work to changing needs.
  • We are equality champions – we stand up against discrimination and for human rights.

Our Four Strategic Aims

  1. Secure sustainable funding – to maintain and expand our services despite economic uncertainty.
  2. Develop services shaped by community needs – ensuring inclusivity, co-production and cultural understanding.
  3. Champion rights and influence policy – strengthening Feniks’ role as a leader in supporting Polish, Ukrainian and other CEE communities in Scotland.
  4. Be a great place to work and volunteer – creating an environment where our people can grow and feel valued.

We will monitor our progress regularly and adapt to changing circumstances. Our goal is to build sustainable services that improve wellbeing, foster integration, and protect the human rights of the 26,000+ Polish and Ukrainian people we work with across Scotland.
